Why can't I upload torrents?
Only specially authorised users (Uploaders) have permission to upload torrents. Note being an Uploader is NOT the same as just uploading a file you have already downloaded from aussierul.es (or are re-seeding). Uploaders are the initial providers of new content.
How do I upload at aussierul.es?
This is a two part answer, but firstly a definition: an uploader is someone who brings new content the site, if you just want to be able to seed torrents this does not make you an uploader.
1. At aussierul.es we are striving for a good general quality of content, as a result we take the precaution of choosing who uploads at the site. If you are not an uploader at the site and click the upload link you will be told that you do not have permission and given the option to apply to be an uploader. The more information you give us on the application form the easier it is for us to make a decision answers like "AFL" in both boxes will not only be rejected but will also not be answered. Secondly your ratio is taken into account and for people who don't really have anything new to upload but need to fix their ratio there is really only one answer, seed the files you already have. Thirdly, you should be confident/knowledgeable enough to be able to create your own torrent files, if you lack this ability please do some research on your chosen bittorrent client (we only support technical questions on utorrent)
2. If you are an uploader then the process goes something like this:
- Check that the content you plan to upload is not on the site already.
- Make sure the quality of the video is very good and it is deinterlaced properly as it'll most likely stay on the site for quite a long time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deinterlacing
- Create the torrent in your bittorent client (utorrent: File -> Create new torrent... OR Ctrl-n)
- If you have multiple files from the same game i.e. first half/second half, it is helpful to put them into the same folder and name the folder something that describes the file.
The generally accepted format is: Sport Year Round x - Hometeam v Awayteam codec example: AFL 2009 Round 3 - Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs x264
- Select the file or folder option (you can drag and drop in utorrent) and select the file/folder you wish to create the torrent file from. * In the "Trackers:" field enter: http://aussierul.es/announce.php
- Tick the "Private torrent" box
- Untick the "Start seeding" box
- Click create (Create and save as in utorrent) and save the torrent file somewhere useful.
- In the "Subject" field put in the torrent name like above but with spaces between each word as it helps the search feature "Sport Year Round Hometeam v Awayteam codec"
- In the "Description" field enter a brief description but do not include any results or spoilers for current season games. For documentaries or older games you can be more descriptive and can include quotes etc.
- The site then checks that a similarly named game has not been already been uploaded, if you find that it has please be sure that you are offering a better version than that already uploaded or that it offers something different. If you are sure it is unique or matches the above requirements, continue.
- Next you need to click the Select Torrent File button and select the torrent file from wherever you saved it.
- You can choose to upload an image either from a url or from a file on your computer which will included on the torrent details page for everyone to see.
- Next under Select Torrent Category please select the appropriate category for your torrent, please do not select the main category, select a sub-category instead.
- You have the option of uploading anonymously which means that only staff can see who uploaded. It's completely up to you.
- Then at the bottom of the page click Upload Torrent
- This uploads the torrent to the site.
- IMPORTANT STEP: From the details page you are at now, you now need to download the torrent file using the "Download Torrent" link. The reason for this is that the site alters the torrent file when you upload it (to mark it as a private torrent file and other things)(this means that your original torrent file is not able to be used for seeding). When the torrent file has downloaded to your computer it will probably be opened by your bittorrent client and it will ask you where you want to save it to. Select the root Folder that the Folder or File you have created the torrent file from is located i.e.
- Target folder: C:\Downloads\AFL 2009 Round 3 - Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs x264
- Select: C:\Downloads
- Target file: C:\Downloads\Hawks Games\AFL 2009 Round 3 - Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs x264.mp4
- Select:C:\Downloads\Hawks Games
Click Ok and you will see that the bittorrent client is checking to see how much of the file is available on your computer (should be 100% after checking, if it isn't please make sure that you have followed all the earlier steps), the bittorrent client will then start seeding.
- That's basically it, just remember that you will need to seed your file for a long time in order for it to be fully uploaded, once there are 10 or more seeds generally you can drop off the seeder pool but try and keep your file on your computer always so that you can reseed it later if necessary.
